Summary
- Sony finally unveiled the PS5 Pro during today's showcase, revealing that it launches in just two months.
- The mid-gen refresh has a larger GPU, advanced ray tracing, a 2TB SSD, and ai-upscaling for better frame rate with Fidelity modes.
Sony has finally revealed the PS5 Pro, releasing on November 7 for $699.99.
This revamped version of the console focuses on three major factors — a larger GPU, advanced ray tracing, and PSSR, which sounds like Sony's own DLSS technology, ai-driven upscaling that boosts frame rate. There's also a 2TB SSD, which given the increasing size of video games these days, is a welcome sight.
As leaks suggested, the PS5 Pro doesn't have a disc drive — you can, however, purchase an attachable one like with the PS5 Slim for $79.99.
PlayStation also revealed that a staggering 75 percent of players use Performance mode, not Fidelity, and so the aim of the PS5 Pro is to bridge the gap. We saw Performance-like frame rate at Fidelity-like graphics in games such as Marvel's Spider-Man 2 and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, which you can watch for yourself in the showcase embedded below.
The PS5 is now four years old, which going by the PS3 and PS4 lifespans, puts us over halfway through this generation. However, the new model is launching a year later than the PS4 Pro did. Coupled with a rocky start thanks to COVID and the infamous global chip shortage that lasted from 2020 to 2023 — which impacted manufacturing and thus boosted scarcity of the console — perhaps we'll see the PS5 last a little longer than usual.
The UK Is Paying An Extra £165
Converting the USD price into other currencies, the PS5 Pro should cost around £535.99 or €634.95. Instead, it's a staggeringly high £699.99 and €799.99 in Britain and Europe respectively.
Accounting for inflation, the PS5 Pro costs around the same as what the PS3 did at launch in the UK (£695.43). Although, that came with a disc drive.
That means that if you're in the UK, you're paying £164 more for the PS5 Pro than Americans, and if you're in Europe, you're paying a similar hike of €165.04. All without even getting a stand. You might be better off trying to import a PS5 Pro from the States if you're dead set on one.

PlayStation 5
The PlayStation 5 was launched in 2020 as Sony's next-gen console, armed with an SSD and the new DualSense controller. Disc-based and digital models are available, and it supports the new PS VR2 virtual reality headset.
