The Mechanical Mayhem patch in Lego: Fortnite has added multiple vehicles to the game, allowing you to easily get around between important places on the map. On top of these new cars, you can also improve your custom vehicles by crafting a wrench from some basic materials, which allows you to designate which direction your custom vehicles move.
Specifically, you can now use the wrench to designate a channel for all of the thrusters and switches on your custom vehicles, meaning that only certain thrusters will get activated by a single switch. If you want to unlock the wrench and fully learn how to use it to customize your vehicles, then check out the guide below.
How To Craft The Wrench
Before you can use the Wrench, you will have to unlock it by crafting a Wooden Rod. This can be achieved by using the Lumber Mill utility station to turn a single piece of wood into a Wooden Rod, and then placing this Wooden Rod into your inventory to unlock the Wrench's crafting recipe instantly.
To craft a Wrench, head to your crafting bench with these materials:
- Three Wooden Rods
- One Cord
To create a single piece of Cord, you will need to use five Vines on a Spinning Wheel. You can find Vines by destroying various plants around your base, as well as picking up any corn or pumpkins you see growing in the wild.
How To Use The Wrench With Switches And Thrusters
The main purpose of the Wrench in Lego Fortnite is to interact with the Switches and Thrusters on your custom vehicles and aircraft. Currently, custom creations are made with Dynamic Foundations, a large piece of wood that will move when you attach thrusters or balloons to it.
However, without using a Wrench all of these thrusters will be activated at the same time whenever you flip a switch, causing the vehicle to move uncontrollably or only in a single direction. Luckily, the Wrench now allows you to make up to three different channels between your thrusters and switches, so only certain switches will activate specific thrusters.
We recommend designating a switch for each direction you want your custom Vehicle to move, and using the Wrench to combine this switch with the correct thrusters. For example, if you want your aircraft to bank to the left, then make sure to create a Switch that is connected to the Thrusters on the right side of the vehicle.
To create these channels, simply hold the Wrench in your hand and click on either a Thrusters or a Switch, which will bring up the channels menu. From here, you can designate a number for each piece of equipment, making it possible to successfully steer your vehicle.
